What is fiber brush contact technology?
Fiber brush is a particular design of sliding electrical contacts. Unlike traditional contact technology, fiber brushes are a group of individual metal fibers (wires) that are collimated by and terminated into a plastic tube. They have higher requirement of machining process to achieve enough slimness and smoothness. The free end of the fiber brush bundle will finally ride in a groove of a ring surface.
What are the advantages of fiber brush contact slip rings?
Fiber brush contact slip rings have many distinct and measurable advantages compared with traditional slip rings:
● Multiple contact points per brush bundle/ring
● Lower contact force
● Lower contact wear rates
● Lower contact resistance and electrical noise
● Longer lifetime
● Wider operating temperature range
● Ability to perform in high vibration environments
● Ability to work at high speed and long time working pattern
AOOD have developed fiber brush contact slip rings for years and have been successfully used in various industrial applications such as active infrared laser scanners, Pan/Tilt units, high speed testing system, robotic welding machines, cutting machines and wind turbine generators. Wind energy application is the best example to embody the superior advantages of fiber brush contact slip ring. Because wind turbine slip rings usually required 20 years super long lifetime with minimum maintenance. At 20rpm condition, a slip ring is expected to with over 200 million revolutions and fiber brush contact technology can meet the need. Even in the most common infrared laser scanner, if the slip ring is expected to with over 50 million revolutions, gold on gold fiber brush contact slip ring would be the best choice.
